SOLAR WATER  HEATING

Solene "Aurora" collectors DHW & Radiant

As a specialty contractor in the solar thermal industry, among the many services we offer are solar water heating systems.  These systems cover a wide range of projects from your home to any large commercial project.  Our commercial projects include laundromats, inns, hotels & motels, or ranching, farming and wineries.

In addition, as part of the comprehensive services we offer we can help with convenient financing for many energy upgrade projects.   Flexible programs offering financing to qualified homeowners are  available through Sonoma County's S.C.E.I.P. or California First programs. For more information or to find out if you qualify, please call us or click on the site links for more info.

Solar water heating systems can generate up to 80% of your hot water needs, reducing your gas or electric bills considerably. Although, solar water heating systems will cost more to purchase up front, they will save you thousands of dollars.   Solar hydronic heating systems have lifespans of up to 25 years.  In addition, during that time they need little to no maintenance, offering even more savings.  And there are big money saving incentives from PG&E and tax credits to help lower the cost of your system.  Also, because the energy of the sun is free, you're protected from future fuel shortages and price hikes.

PV-T Hybrid Collectors

PV-T-300x211Photovoltaics (PV) are semi-conductors and operate in a paradox – they need sunlight to generate electricity but suffer a degradation in performance as they get hotter. Standard PV Panels typically only convert 10-15% of solar radiation into electricity and the rest is dissipated as waste heat.
PV-T stands for Photovoltaic-Thermal and generates both electricity and usable thermal heat at the same time from one panel. The module heat is absorbed in order to produce hot water. This way, PV efficiency is optimized as the heat is transferred into hot water for hot water production.

HYBRID SYSTEM

Too often we see a shortage of usable roof or land area to accommodate both types of systems.  This put the customer in a position to have to make a choice between a PV or thermal system.  A choice they no longer have to make due to a new hybrid system from Solimpeks.com.

With a dual solar collection: 2 usable energy outputs with one collection system.  As a result this is a system that just can't be beat in today's emerging solar marketplace.

SOLAR POOL HEATING

UMA SOLAR has a complete line of solar products for home, school, and business.

The Solar energy required to heat large volumes of water for your pool to comfortable temperatures is is very simple technology compared to other forms of solar energy.  In fact, this technology is very similar to the warm water that comes from a garden hose left in the sun.  The water is heated slowly and repeatedly while being circulated through polypropylene collectors.

RADIANT & HYDRONIC FLOOR HEATING

The best heating system a house can have is the one you don't realize is there. No radiators clanking in the night. Vents that don't sound like jets preparing for take off.   Ductwork not spewing dust to run up your allergists' bills. Just an even blanket of heat, right where you want it.

That's the appeal of radiant floor heating, says This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey, who has long been a fan. "It's truly invisible," he says. But a radiant floor system has more than just aesthetics going for it. It's also a highly efficient way to heat a house, increasing comfort as it reduces energy costs.

Radiant heating systems supply heat directly to the floor or to panels in the wall or ceiling of a house. The systems depend largely on radiant heat transfer -- the delivery of heat directly from the hot surface to the people and objects in the room via infrared radiation. Radiant heating is the effect you feel when you can feel the warmth of the sun.

Hydronic baseboard heating systems operate more efficiently than do electric units, because hot liquid takes longer to cool down. The metal fins in an electrical baseboard, by comparison, cool down very quickly. That’s why if you come across a home in which baseboard heat is the one and only system of delivering heat, chances are high that it’s a cheaper-to-run hydronic system.

Radiant heating has a number of advantages. It is more efficient than baseboard heating and usually more efficient than forced-air heating because it eliminates duct losses. People with allergies often prefer radiant heat because it doesn’t distribute allergens like forced air systems can. Hydronic (liquid-based) systems use little electricity, a benefit for homes off the power grid or in areas with high electricity prices.  They use a wide variety of energy sources to heat the liquid, including modern condensing boilers, standard gas- or oil-fired boilers, wood-fired boilers, solar water heaters, Geo-thermal or any combination of these sources.

GREY WATER

California recently went through one of its worst droughts in history.  As a result, many people lost much of their expensive landscaping. We can help you install a "laundry to landscape" greywater system that will keep your landscaping alive and vibrant without wasting our most valuable resource - water.

DailyActs Greywater Seminar 6.20 (29) compGrey water is water that comes from your sink, shower and laundry that does not come into contact with feces either from diapers or toilets.  And while it may look grey or dirty from coming into contact with dirt, food, grease, hair and biodegradable household cleaning products it is not.   It is not only safe for your non-edible garden and landscaping it actually provides valuable nutrients to your landscaping.  Although, if greywater is released into our rivers, lakes or estuaries its nutrients become pollutants, but to our plants they becomes a powerful fertilizer.  Reusing greywater keeps the water out of the sewer and septic system reducing the chance it will pollute local waterways.  You are not only saving water but also have the added benefit of saving money.

For a limited time 30% tax rebates are available for qualified energy saving residential or commercial improvements. In addition, PG&E also offers attractive incentives which make out-of-pocket costs for getting your money saving solar thermal heating system very low.  Due to these offers, the time to get your solar thermal heating system is now, while these incentives are still available.  We are happy to provide an estimate at no cost to you.  Call, email us or contact us through our contact page for more information about making switching to solar energy a reality for you.  We can also help you with low cost financing for your energy upgrades through California First or SCEIP.
